Solarpunks For a Lighter Internet
This project is a series of socio-technical experiments that explore how a sustainable and less energy-hungry Internet could function, what it might look like, and who could be responsible for making it happen.
role: concept, development, technical setup, workshop facilitation, documentation
- Github Code Repository and Workshop Script
- Workshop @ Hackers & Designers, Amsterdam
- Workshop @ De Vrolijkheid, Katwijk
- Workshop @ PageNotFound, Den Haag
- Workshop @ FHNW, Basel
- Workshop @ TUMO, Yerevan
Technically, the project takes 1MB WiFi hotspots running on solar-powered micro-computers as the central prototype of study. It started as a collaboration between Hackers & Designers and Dianaband.

This software and hardware toolchain is activated and further developed through workshops. The workshops explore, in a practical manner how a process of building prototypes for a light internet can be addressed with different levels of access and age groups.
